FCA charges Shaun Lawrence for unauthorised mortgage broking

FCA Charges Former Adviser for Allegedly Operating Without Authorisation

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has charged Shaun Lawrence for allegedly continuing to operate as a mortgage broker despite being banned from regulated financial services activities.

Shaun Lawrence, who is also known as Shaun Lawrence-Bright and Shaun Bright, was previously authorised to provide mortgage advice within the financial services sector.

However, in 2008, his regulatory permissions were revoked by the FCA, he was fined, and prohibited from carrying out regulated roles within financial services.

Alleged Breach of Financial Services Regulations

The FCA alleges that Mr Lawrence breached the Financial Services and Markets Act by continuing to offer mortgage broking services despite the ban remaining in place.

The case highlights the FCA’s ongoing commitment to protecting consumers and taking action against individuals who operate outside regulatory requirements.

The FCA continues to emphasise the importance of consumers dealing only with authorised financial advisers and regulated firms when seeking mortgage or financial advice.

Court Proceedings

Mr Lawrence is scheduled to appear before Hull Magistrates’ Court on 2 July 2026.

The enforcement action serves as a reminder that operating without regulatory authorisation can carry serious legal and financial consequences, particularly where consumer trust and financial wellbeing are at stake.
